Vice Raids Box Office
Miami Vice overtook Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at the box office over the weekend as it confiscated $25.7 million. Nevertheless, in its fourth week, Pirates continued to amass a sizable treasure, adding $20.6 million to its gross and bringing total ticket sales to date to $358.5 million -- the most ever earned by a Disney movie. The teen movie John Tucker Must Die had a better-than-expected opening, taking in $14.3 million. But Warner Bros.' animated The Ant Bully was virtually exterminated as it brought in only $8.4 million. Warner Bros. also saw its hugely expensive Superman Returns fall out of the top ten as it took in $3.8 million. Another newcomer, the Woody Allen crime comedy Scoop opened with $3.04 million in just 538 theaters, but its per-theater average of $5,663 was second only to Miami Vice's $8,515. In their second week, Lady in the Water and Clerks II each fell 60 percent.
