Van Susteran Says She Feels "Bad (Almost)" About Cnn's Woes
Fox News personality Greta Van Susteren, a former CNN personality who has beaten her CNN rivals since she jumped to the News Corp-owned channel in 2001, said on her GretaWire blog Tuesday that she feels "bad (almost) for CNN." Why? "Because I have friends there...friends who now whisper to me everytime they see me, "what do you think is going on here? The place feels awful...it is dying." I worry about them. I want my friends to have jobs. Don't get me wrong I want to continue to win, but not to the extent their place goes belly up and my friends lose jobs." Van Susteran accused CNN executives of trying to prop up their organization by "spending a gazillion of their shareholder money to run delusional ads that they are somehow number one and somehow do it better than everyone else -- apparently convincing only themselves because they have fallen into last place -- 4th? -- with the viewers." CNN, however, responded that it's healthy -- a spokesman telling TVNewser.com "CNN is enjoying its 6th straight year of profit growth and is, again, on track to deliver record earnings in 2009. As for being #1 CNN continues to have a larger audience on TV and the web combined than Fox News or any other network."
