Van Morrison Slams 'Meaningless' Beatles

Irish singer VAN MORRISON has criticised legendary band THE BEATLES - insisting the Fab Four were "peripheral" in the history of music.
The veteran star is adamant the Hey Jude hitmakers should not be held up as the pioneers of pop, because there was great music before the band's 1960s heyday.
He says, "You measure things in terms of the Beatles. We don't think music started there. The Beatles were peripheral. If you had more knowledge of music, it didn't really mean anything. To me, it was meaningless."

well vanfan, I find it unwise to let people who can't even spell genius correctly determine who qualifies for the title. So I'll go ahead and disregard the rest of your comments as they probably follow the same stupid suit.

Mr. Morrison, I believe you envy the Beatles. I have always liked your music and respected you... but no longer. You have lost a fan by your arrogant remarks about The Beatles. They will be admired and remembered for their incredible contributions to music and the world in general, both as a group and individually, long after you are forgotten. Shame on you for letting your envy and jealousy rear it's ugly head.

van is a genious and i couldn't agree more with his comments about the beatles. if you really knew anything of VM you'd know that he's not jealous of their success or exposure. if anything he's avoided the spotlight at all costs. if he wanted to be a celebrity his talent dictates that he would be. someone asked him a question and he gave an honest answer.the beatles were little more than a boy band, the first of these music industry creations. lennon desparately attempted to break out from the formula but unfortunately had too little talent or maybe just too little time to do so. the beatles were commercially successful but artistically insignificant. i've always hated the beatles but have no problem with you're liking their music. i think it's crap but still respect your right to listen to and enjoy whatever makes you happy. you should know that popularity does not erase the fact that it's crap tho;)
