Van Halen - Van Halen Stars Quell Rumors Of David Lee Roth Feud
Eddie Van Halen and his son Wolfgang have sought to quell rumors that the reunited Van Halen have cut their tour of North America short because of a backstage feud with lead singer David Lee Roth, the older Van Halen insisting that it was simply a matter of fatigue and perhaps a feeling that they'd taken on too much.
"Dave's the same as he's always been, funny, witty," the guitar legend said to Usa Today "Sometimes I can only take that in small doses, because he just goes on and on." The reason for their tour ending after a show in New Orleans on June 26th is far more honest, he says. "We bit off more than we could chew. This record took a lot out of us. And we went on tour earlier than we wanted to so we could play Madison Square Garden (in March, before a renovation), and that threw the schedule out of whack."
Van Halen senior insisted that this didn't mean an end to them playing future shows, in fact he teased "in November, we'll hit Japan, and in the new year, we'll possibly do something special, but I can't talk about it." Wolfgang meanwhile also played down talks of a Roth argument, stating "He's like the Energizer Bunny- wind it up and see what happens."
