Usher - Usher Wanted To Resolve Custody Battle After Former Stepson's Death
Usher made an emotional appeal to his ex-wife Tameka Foster to settle their bitter custody battle amicably as her son Kile Glover fought for his life in hospital following a jet-ski accident in July (12).
The Yeah! hitmaker rushed to the 11 year old's hospital bedside after he was struck in the head by a watercraft while sitting on an inflatable raft on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, Georgia. The boy was declared brain-dead and he passed away on 21 July (12).
Usher opened up about his former stepson's death in a candid Tv chat with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the U.S. on Sunday (16Sep12), and he revealed the tragedy prompted him to reach out to Foster to try and resolve their court fight over their two young sons, Usher V and Naviyd.
Fighting back tears, he said, "I went to see him (in hospital) and while there, I said (to Tameka), 'This right here is obvious evidence why it's not worth fighting because we're fighting for our children's lives, that's all that matters...
"I miss Kile... (he was) a great part of my life. We cooked together in the house, we laughed, we played, we'd sing... He loved to sing, he loved to dance. He loved to tell jokes."
Reports suggest Usher skipped the child's funeral in Atlanta as he was not photographed at the memorial, but he insists he wouldn't have missed such an important event.
He added, "It hurts me to hear people speculate that I wasn't at the funeral because I absolutely was at the funeral, I was at the burial as well."
Foster refused to let up in her custody fight and the former couple's court case continued soon after Kile was laid to rest - but it was the R&B singer who was granted primary care of their sons on 24 August (12). His ex-wife appealed the decision but her request for a retrial was denied on Friday (14Sep12).
