Critics may have universally panned Adam Sandler's latest comedic contribution yet it's somehow managed to beat the other new release, Pacific Rim, in the US Weekend Box Office (12th-14th July). Despicable Me 2 topped the Box Office charts for the second week in a row.

Grown Ups 2 has been described by critics as "lousy", "gross" and lacking in "continuity or logic". In contrast reviews of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim have been mixed but considerably more favourable than any written of Grown Ups 2

Pacific Rim has been described as "heart-warming" (Liam Lacey - Globe and Mail) and "humanistic" (Ann Hornaday - Washington Post). Others say Del Toro "cheerfully embraces the mock seriousness that such films embrace in" (Philip French - The Observer) and better by far than any of the Transformers franchise.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Humman (Sons of Anarchy); Idris Elba (Prometheus); Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses); Rob Kazinsky (True Blood) and Max Martini (The Unit).

The rest of the Box Office chart is made up of Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy's The Heat which moved from 3rd to 4th place. The Lone Ranger, starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp shifting up 3 places to number 5. Finally Monsters University moved from 4th to 6th place.
