Twilight Director Is Record-breaker
Vampire movie TWILIGHT has already begun breaking box office records - it has scored the most successful opening weekend ever for a female director.
The dark fantasy romance, starring Robert Pattinson, claimed the top spot at the U.S. box office after grossing $70.6 million (GBP47.1 million) in its debut weekend (beg22Nov08).
And the massive ticket sales have catapulted director Catherine Hardwicke into the history books.
Twilight easily broke the previous target set by a female-directed film - Mimi Leder's Deep Impact, which took $41.1 million (GBP27.5 million) during its opening weekend in 1998.
Hardwicke - who previously co-wrote and directed 2003 movie Thirteen - is already in talks to film a sequel to Twilight, which is based on a series of novels by Stephenie Meyer.
