Tweets May Cost Cnn's Martin His Job
CNN's Roland Martin may lose his job on the cable news network as a result of comments he made on Twitter during the Super Bowl game. After a commercial in which soccer star David Beckham appeared in a commercial for H&M department stores, Martin tweeted, "If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!" Also "Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass." The remarks infuriated the gay activist group GLAAD, which called for his firing. Martin quickly backed off, maintaining that his remarks were intended to parody soccer players and not gays. but GLAAD wasn't buying the explanation, and neither were the powers-that-be at CNN, who promptly suspended him indefinitely. A few hours later Martin said that he plans to meet with representatives of GLAAD, and to have "a productive dialogue."
