Tupac Shakur - Tupac Shakur Remembered On 40th Birthday
Tupac Shakur, the legendary New York rapper, is being remembered by fans today on what would have been his 40th birthday (16th June 2011). Tupac Shakur was gunned down on 7th September 1996 after watching Mike Tyson fight Bruce Sheldon at the Mgm Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
The rapper's birthday comes as new information emerges concerning an attack on Shakur in 1994. Convicted prisoner Dexter Isaac has confessed to AllHipHop.com he was involved in the non-fatal shooting of the rapper at the Manhattan Quad studio. The incident is often cited as the catalyst to the West coast-East coast feud that is attributed to the eventual death of Shakur. In a written confession, Isaac said, "In 1994, James Rosemond hired me to rob 2Pac Shakur at the Quad Studio. He gave me $2,500, plus all the jewelry I took, except for one ring, which he wanted for himself", adding "I still have as proof the chain that we took that night in the robbery". The R&B singer Erykah Badu will headline a birthday concert celebrating's Tupac's legacy in Atlanta tonight. Rappers Too $Hort, Bun B and 8 All are also scheduled to perform, with proceeds from the show benefitting the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
Tupac Shakur's legacy shows little sign of waning - he had sold 75 million albums worldwide as of 2007. He is still considered to be one of the best-selling music artists in the world.
