Tupac Hologram Tour On The Way: Will You Buy A Ticket?
The world was so impressed with the Tupac Shakur hologram that performed at this year's Coachella festival, that it might even get its own full-scale tour, The Guardian reports today (April 18, 2012). It'll be no mean feat, of course and no cheap trick. The Coachella hologram cost a reported sum of somewhere between $100,000 and $400,000 to produce but just days after the Coachella performance, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are looking to "capitalise on that investment." Whether or not this would involve expanding on the hologram's repertoire for a full tour is currently unclear.
The hologram was the joint creation of AV Concepts and Digital Domain. Digital Domain's El Ulbrich said "Dre has a massive vision for this. This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion . [and it] is just the beginning." Both Snoop and Dre's teams are currently discussing the logistics of a future tour and Tupac's mother has given the project her blessing, according to TMZ. Afeni Shakur's representative told the site that she was "positively thrilled" with her late son's virtual performance at the festival.
The possibilities of the tour seem wide open at the moment. The options being discussed seem to involve a limited tour, involving Snoop, Dre and Tupac or even a much bigger stadium tour with a wider roster of hip-hop stars, including the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent and WIZ KHALIFA.
