Tupac Shakur - Tupac Hologram Set To Go On Tour?
Tupac Shakur made a triumphant return, of sorts, at the Coachella Music Festival in California on Sunday (April 15, 2012), appearing on-stage in the form of a hologram. The late rapper - who was shot and killed in 1996 - performed with Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre.
A video of Tupac's ghostly image drifting across the festival's main stage and performing the likes of 'Gangsta Party' soon became an Internet sensation and went viral on Monday morning. The hologram was created by Digital Domain Media Group - the company behind the visual effects used in 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which Brad Pitt's character grew younger by the year. According to the Wall Street Journal, the quality of the hologram used at Coachella has led Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg to begin planning the logistics of taking 'Tupac' on tour. One option being discussed is a "superstar" stadium tour featuring Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Eminem and Wiz Khalifa, while a more limited tour featuring just Dre, Snoop and Tupac is another option. Digital Domain reported revenue of $98.6 million last year, and holds a market capitalization of $211 million. Chief creative officer Ed Ulbrich said, "To create a completely synthetic human being is the most complicated thing that can be done. This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion".
