Real-estate tycoon-turned reality TV star DONALD TRUMP has spoken out against controversial plans to open a mosque close to the site of the 9/11 terrorist atrocities in New York, insisting it's "insensitive" and "wrong" to build the centre so close to the 2001 tragedy.
Muslim activist Feisal Abdul Rauf is behind plans to build a $100 million (GBP67 million) mosque just a few blocks from the site of the World Trade Center, which have sparked a heated debate about the status of religious freedom and tolerance in the U.S.
Furious citizens have banded together to urge city officials to insist the mosque is moved away from the site of the tragedy, which saw thousands of civilians perish at the hands of suicidal Muslim extremists, and now Trump has waded in to the debate, insisting the mosque should be moved.
Trump, who owns a number of properties in New York City, tells U.S. TV programme Extra, "It's very insensitive, and it shouldn't be there. I'm a big believer in freedom of religion, but I think the mosque being in that location is absolutely wrong."
