Trujillo To Sit Out Of Metallica Hall Of Fame Performance

METALLICA bass player ROBERT TRUJILLO has opted not to perform with his bandmates at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Ohio on Saturday (04Apr09) - because he wants to witness a 'black album' reunion from his seat.
The heavy rockers have drafted in former bassist Jason Newsted for the show, during which they'll perform songs from 1991's iconic Metallica, which fans have dubbed the black album.
Newsted, who learned he'd been recalled to the group's ranks for the Hall of Fame show earlier this month (Mar09), says, "I just planned on going, looking good in my suit, hanging out with my family, going up and getting the award, making a nice speech."
But then drummer Lars Ulrich called him and told him to be in Cleveland ready to rehearse on Friday (03Apr09).
Newsted tells Billboard.com, "He said, 'We want you to rock with us.'
"My first question was, 'How's Robert with that? How does he feel about that? I don't want to create any kind of negative anything. I want this all to be proper.'
"He said, 'No, he's with it, man. He wants to be there as a fan, too, and wants to see the 'black album band'... It's all good. Everybody's agreed to it. Let's rock!'"
Thrilled Newsted, who quit the group in 2001, is planning to dust off the amplifier rig he used during his tenure as Metallica's bass player, as well as the Sadowski five-string guitar he notes "has played more songs for Metallica than any other bass instrument in the world".
