Toy Story Overtakes Nemo As Pixar's No. 1

Toy Story has replaced 2003's Finding Nemo as Pixar's biggest box-office champ. As of Wednesday, the latest Pixar feature had taken in $896.22 million worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. Finding Nemo 's final worldwide count was $867.89 million. Each film earned more overseas than it did domestically. Nemo' s foreign count represented 60.9 percent of its total gross, while Toy Story 3 's currently represents 55.6 percent. However, Toy Story 3 's release was delayed in several foreign markets because of the World Cup and is still going strong in many of them. On the other hand, attendance for Nemo was likely substantially higher. While the industry keeps no figures on the actual number of tickets sold, using a complicated formula for determining attendance, inflation and 3D surcharges have produced sharply higher ticket prices for Toy Story 3 than those for Finding Nemo. The No. 1 film at the box office this year is also a Disney release, Alice in Wonderland , which has earned $1,024.30 million worldwide, 67.4 percent of it from overseas.
