The Who - Townshend's First Guitar Smashing Moment Remembered

The London venue where THE WHO rocker PETE TOWNSHEND first smashed a guitar has been listed as a historical building.

Harrow Council officials have unveiled a plaque commemorating the 1964 incident at the spot where the Railway Hotel venue once stood.

The club was demolished years ago to make way for a housing development, ironically called Daltrey House - Townshend's The Who bandmate is Roger Daltrey.

Over the years, Townshend's aggressive guitar playing has become the stuff of rock legend, but the guitarist admits he's mellowed out onstage in recent years: "Electric guitar and arm-swinging is not what I do between dogwalks and arthritis."
