How many people can say that they have the most coveted Hermes bag in the world named after them? Jane Birkin became a symbol of the Swinging Sixties and after accidentally spilling the contents of her straw bag next to Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight from Paris to London, she also became his muse for a new design. The Birkin bag is now brandished by the most famous and most wealthy, although Birkin herself no longer uses her since developing tendonitis. With a wardrobe full of mini dresses and Mary Janes, Jane Birkin was the original boho babe, paving the way for Rachel Zoe and her hoard of hippies.

Editor-at-large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan, Anna Dello Russo is absolutely fearless in the face of fashion. Describing herself as a “passionate fashionista”, she has also been labelled a “fashion maniac” by photographer, Helmut Newton. Dello Russo owns no less that 4,000 pairs of shoes (we couldn’t even fit 4,000 pairs of shoes in our houses!) and has collaborating with H&M to produce her own collection. Eclectic and often outrageous with her fashion choices, Anna Dello Russo is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated style icons.

Tragic heiress and socialite Edie Sedgwick still lives on in her style legacy. One of Andy Warhol’s muses, Sedgwick was named “The Girl of the Year” in 1965, although in 1971, aged just 28, Edie died from what has been speculated to be “acute barbiturate intoxication”. Her elfin look, heavy eye makeup and leotard are immortalised in the many images of her, although sadly a damaged and tormented soul also shines out of the photos.

Sienna Miller had become famous for her style sense even before she played Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. The actress is the modern boho icon, although she has recently graduated to a more sophisticated style, Sienna Miller is definitely one of the major fashion icons of the past decade. The Alfie star has a natural knack for throwing together a fabulous outfit, we wish we were as style savvy as Sienna!
