These five style vixens are queens of the fashion world. But are you more inspired by Olivia Palermo or Anna Dello Russo? Which fashionista floats your boat?
There’s a certain stage you reach in your fashion career when you are no longer simply just ‘well-dressed’. This lot have all transitioned from your regular fashionistas to bona fide style icons, each with a dedicated following of devoted fashion fans. Here's a list of our top five fashion icons.
At 67 years old Jane Birkin is still a fashionista
How many people can say that they have the most coveted Hermes bag in the world named after them? Jane Birkin became a symbol of the Swinging Sixties and after accidentally spilling the contents of her straw bag next to Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight from Paris to London, she also became his muse for a new design. The Birkin bag is now brandished by the most famous and most wealthy, although Birkin herself no longer uses her since developing tendonitis. With a wardrobe full of mini dresses and Mary Janes, Jane Birkin was the original boho babe, paving the way for Rachel Zoe and her hoard of hippies.
Editor-at-large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan, Anna Dello Russo is absolutely fearless in the face of fashion. Describing herself as a “passionate fashionista”, she has also been labelled a “fashion maniac” by photographer, Helmut Newton. Dello Russo owns no less that 4,000 pairs of shoes (we couldn’t even fit 4,000 pairs of shoes in our houses!) and has collaborating with H&M to produce her own collection. Eclectic and often outrageous with her fashion choices, Anna Dello Russo is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated style icons.
Anna Dello Russo is a fearless fashionista
Swoon. Olivia Palermo never fails to look effortlessly flawless, chic and eternally classic. Not only is she beautiful (and engaged to equally beautiful Johannes Huebl) she has an innate knowledge of how to put together the perfect ensemble.
Olivia Palermo is a modern day Audrey Hepburn
Tragic heiress and socialite Edie Sedgwick still lives on in her style legacy. One of Andy Warhol’s muses, Sedgwick was named “The Girl of the Year” in 1965, although in 1971, aged just 28, Edie died from what has been speculated to be “acute barbiturate intoxication”. Her elfin look, heavy eye makeup and leotard are immortalised in the many images of her, although sadly a damaged and tormented soul also shines out of the photos.
Fashion icon Sienna Miller played Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl
Sienna Miller had become famous for her style sense even before she played Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. The actress is the modern boho icon, although she has recently graduated to a more sophisticated style, Sienna Miller is definitely one of the major fashion icons of the past decade. The Alfie star has a natural knack for throwing together a fabulous outfit, we wish we were as style savvy as Sienna!
