Moviegoers clearly have mixed feelings about movie trailers, judging from a survey conducted by About half of them -- 49 percent -- say that the trailers give away too many of the best scenes, with about 19 percent saying that the trailers have deterred them from seeing a film. On the other hand, 24 percent said that by giving away certain plot turns, the trailers made them want to see the film more. The survey also found that, among 48 percent of moviegoers, trailers were more influential that anything else in helping them decide which movies to see -- about the same percentage (46 percent) said that they were primarily influenced by word of mouth. Just half that percentage (25 percent) were influenced by movie reviews -- those they read online or watched on TV. There was no indication how many were influenced by reviews they read in newspapers.
