Marc Bolan - Tony Visconti Releases New T-rex Tracks
Glam rock icon Marc Bolan is releasing new music from beyond the grave in an ambitious project by famed producer Tony Visconti.
The studio expert, who worked with Bolan on several T-Rex albums during the band's 1970s heyday, has trawled through his hoard of master tapes featuring the group and used modern recording techniques to mix their hits together.
The first track, Childlike Men, combines T-Rex songs Ride a White Swan and Jeepster and was released online last month (Sep12). Other tracks are in the pipeline.
Visconti tells Uncut magazine, "It's a fun project and I think Marc would totally approve. He loved studio wizardry, and he and I were the first ones in there with that. We're trying to create a batch of new songs with T-Rex, to put together a new kind of surreal catalogue.
"The idea is to regenerate beautiful music... The difference between regeneration and a remix is that we sampled every member of the band... To all extent and purposes we Frankensteined it (sic), but this is the T-Rex band, as well as Marc Bolan. That's why it sounds so warm and lovely and beautiful."
Bolan died in a car crash in 1977 at the age of 29.
