Tony Scott Suffered From Inoperable Brain Cancer - Report

Tragic director Tony Scott had been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, according to U.S. reports.

The Top Gun filmmaker jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon (19Aug12), aged 68. His body was recovered by divers several hours later.

Authorities are investigating his death as a suicide after discovering a handful of letters, intended for Scott's family, in his car and at his office, according to Craig Harvey, the coroner's Chief of Operations.

A source tells ABC News the star had been battling cancer, although Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, refuses to speculate on the rumours before performing an autopsy, which has been scheduled for Monday (20Aug12).

He tells the New York Daily News, "We might (see a brain issue), but we don't have anything medically confirmed at this time."

The British director's brother, fellow filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott, was spotted at London's Heathrow Airport on Monday waiting to catch a flight to L.A., where he is expected to comfort his sister-in-law, Donna Wilson Scott, and his twin nephews.
