Tony Scott - Tony Scott Commits Suicide

Tony Scott has committed suicide.

The 'Top Gun' director has been found dead after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles yesterday (19.08.12), police authorities have revealed.

Lieutenant Joe Bale from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office told the BBC: ''We will go where the facts take us. We have no reason to believe it was not a suicide.''

The 68-year-old British-born director was brother to 'Prometheus' director Ridley Scott and is best known for his action films which include 'Beverly Hills Cop II' and 'Enemy of the State'.

Tony was seen parking his car on the cable-suspension bridge which connects the port district of San Pedro to Terminal Island before jumping into the water at 12:30 local time.

His body was recovered from the harbour less than three hours later.

Katherine Rowe, the filmmaker's spokesperson, issued a statement saying: ''I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time.''

Tony often worked with Denzel Washington, most recently in 2010's 'Unstoppable', and had also made a name for himself in television.

He was executive producer of two popular CBS dramas 'Numb3rs' and 'The Good Wife' with his brother Ridley.

Tony is believed to have been working on a 'Top Gun' sequel with Tom Cruise - who he also worked with on 'Days of Thunder' - at the time of his death.

Friends and admirers of his work have paid tribute to him on twitter, with director Ron Howard commenting: ''No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day.''
