Toni Basil's Battle Over Mickey Royalties
The former cheerleader enjoyed global fame in 1982 when the bubblegum pop classic topped charts around the world, but Basil is adamant she barely saw any of the profits.
The song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn but Basil alleges she came up with its catchy, cheerleader-style chant - and she's still "fighting" for more cash.
She tells British music magazine Q, "Mickey came from my days as a cheerleader. I wrote the chant, which is the bit of the song that's used on commercials, but I've barely made $3,000 from the song. The statute of limitations prevents me from saying too much, but I'm still fighting to get a fair share."
