Tom Petty - Tom Petty Bans Bachmann From Using 'American Girl'

Tom Petty, the multi-award winning singer-songwriter, has banned 'Tea Party' politician Michele Bachmann from using his track 'American Girl' at her rallies, reports Rolling Stone. Tom Petty was said be incensed at the Minnesota congresswoman's use of the track and immediately threatened legal action.
The singer's management sent Bachmann's campaign a cease and desist letter, urging them to refrain from using the track. The politician recently confused movie legend John Wayne with the infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy at her Presidential campaign launch. It's not the first time a politician has used a Petty song against the singer's will. In 2000, he demanded George W. Bush stop using his track 'I Won't Back Down' at his rallies. In a letter send to the President's camp, Wizen Music Publishing president Randall Wixen wrote, "Any use (of the song) made by you or your campaign creates, either intentionally or unintentionally, the impression that you and your campaign have been endorsed by Tom Petty, which is not true". Back in 1984, Bruce Springsteen was less than impressed after being name dropped in a Ronald Reagan speech in New Jersey. Recently, Jackson Browne sued John Mccain for using a section of 'Running On Empty' in a campaign commercial without permission.
Tom Petty released his twelfth studio album, 'Mojo', in 2010. The record debuted at number-two on the US Billboard 200, selling 125,000 copies in its first week of release.
