Tom Jones - Tom Jones Feared For His Voice After Surgery

The Delilah crooner started having problems with his voice two decades ago due to overworking his vocal cords during his hectic performance schedule.

He was forced to undergo surgeries to remove the nodules which had developed, and the star admits he was wracked with fear he would be left without his talent when he recovered from the operation.

He tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "I developed nodules on my vocal cords due to overwork. My doctor told me I was doing too many shows back to back - I was doing two a night.

"I had to have them removed and I was worried that I'd lose my voice. I didn't know if I'd sing again. And I didn't know if it would change my voice."

But he reveals the surgery actually benefited his vocals, adding, "Thank God, my voice was Ok - in fact, I think it took years off it.

"Since then I've really looked after my voice. The most important thing is not to get dehydrated. I always have six glasses of water on stage. You have to rest your vocal cords too, like an athlete resting their muscles."
