Tom Hooper's Golden Globe disbelief

Tom Hooper says winning a Golden Globe for 'Les Miserables' was like ''being struck by lightning''.

The film's director was so shocked following the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles last night (13.01.13) - where the feature won Best Picture in the Comedy or Musical category - that he was still in disbelief at the NBC-Universal after party for the event.

Speaking to USA Today, he said: ''It was like being struck by lightning. I so didn't expect it.''

The director - who previously won a Best Director Oscar for 'The King's Speech' - kept hold of the envelope revealing the movie's win and plans to place it on his mantelpiece next to the envelope announcing his Oscar victory.

He said: ''Here it is on this piece of paper. I feel I have to check to make sure it's the right name. You can see, it clearly is the right name.''

Tom also praised the film's star Hugh Jackman - who won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his role as protagonist Jean Valjean - insisting ''that we wouldn't have made the film without him''.

He added: ''I reminded him he's the only reason the film happened.''

However, Hugh, 44, revealed he almost quit the blockbuster production following a catastrophic rehearsal.

He admitted on stage while accepting the Best Actor award: ''I really thought I'd bitten off more than I could chew. My wife talked me off that cliff, like she talks me most days.''

Co-star Anne Hathaway also picked up an award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Fantine.
