Aerosmith rocker Tom Hamilton has thanked fans for their support after he was forced to quit the band's Australian tour due to illness.

The bassist pulled out of the group's shows Down Under and jetted back to the U.S. last week (ends28Apr13) after falling sick with a nasty lung infection.

Hamilton took to his Twitter.com page on Friday (03May13) to thanks fans for cheering him up, writing, "The only thing that's kinda (sic) cool about this pneumonia thing, is all the sweet sweet luv (sic) I'm gettin (sic) from the 4 corners of the globe."

Bass player David Hull, who has stood in for Hamilton on previous Aerosmith tours, was flown in to take his place and Hamilton will rejoin the band's ongoing world tour once he recovers.

Aerosmith will play their final Australian gig in Melbourne on Saturday (04May13).
