Tom Cruise - Tom Cruise To Return As Maverick For Top Gun 2?
Tom Cruise could reprise his role as U.S pilot Maverick for a sequel of the 1986 hit film 'Top Gun'. The Mission: Impossible star has confirmed he is in talks to begin work on a second movie with director Tony Scott but stressed the importance of finding a suitable storyline.
Speaking to Mtv News, Cruise explained Top Gun 2 would only go ahead if he, Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer could "find a story that we all want to do", but added, "I hope we can figure this out to do it again". The first movie was nominated for four Oscars and scooped the gong for Best Song - Take My Breath Away by Berlin. Cruise, who is currently promoting the new Mission: Impossible movie 'Ghost Protocol' in Dubai, explained, "I said to Tony, I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven't made a film since Days Of Thunder.Tony and I and Jerry, we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas and I thought, wow, that would be what we could do now". One rumor doing the rounds suggests Cruise's character Maverick would return as an instructor, teaching a new class of Top Gun recruits, though the actor gave little away when quizzed on potential plotlines, saying, "I don't know - we're working on it".
If the project gets the green light, it is unclear when filming on Top Gun 2 would begin, given Cruise's attachment to other projects. He is set to play a homicide investigator in the Lee Child adaptation 'One Shot' and is also set to shoot the action-sci-fi, 'Horizons', with JESSICA CHASTAIN.
