Tom Cruise Will Be Back For Mission Impossible 5
Star to continue with movie franchise that started in 1996
Tom Cruise will be making a sweet reunion with Mission Impossible after it was confirmed that the actor will be appearing in the fifth installment of the movie, 17 years after the first was released. The film series has subsequently gone on to become one of the most successful action franchises in history.
After a slight dip at the box office for the third film in 2006, last year’s fourth instalment Ghost Protocol was the most successful of the four yet – taking in nearly $700 million at the box office worldwide, beating the record set by the second film. Off the back of that, Deadline have confirmed that Cruise will be back in the as-yet untitled fifth film, and also reckon that he’ll be working with his frequent collaborator, director Christopher McQuarrie. The later hasn’t yet been confirmed by McQuarrie’s people, but the pair have a strong bond between them, with the director and actor most recently working together on another action film, Jack Reacher, which they also hope will be turned into an on-going franchise. They’ve a good chance too, given that film took in $216 million off a budget of $60 million in spite of lukewarm reviews.
With that in mind, it’s perhaps understandable that David Ellison’s SkyDance Productions co-financing the film with Paramount – something it’s also done for Jack Reacher. Indeed it looks like Cruise could well be set to further his bank-ability in what’s been a remarkably enduring career thus far.
