On Father's Day in the Icelandic city of Reykjavik, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes sat with their daughter Suri in an upmarket restaurant, looking every bit the happy family. Less than one month later and they are due to separate after seven years together, on the back of a series of rumours that they had been living practically separate likes for some time.

Behind closed doors, it has emerged that Katie had grown unhappy of their unusual living arrangements and that they were living practically separate lives before the split, even when they were in the same house together. A source close to Katie told E! News that she felt she had no power to change the situation and that she wasn't happy for others to witness their unusual living arrangements.

The former Dawson's Creek star reportedly filed for divorce in New York because she believes it will increase her chances of winning sole custody of the couple's daughter, who she believes is at risk if she is exposed to Cruise's Scientology faith. However, Tom is reportedly trying to halt the proceedings and file for divorce in their home state of California where the law could make it easier for him to win joint custody of the six-year-old.
