Tobey Maguire's Cardboard Role

Tobey Maguire is to lend his voice to animated movie 'Cardboard'.

The 37-year-old actor will star in Fox Animation's big screen adaptation of Doug TenNapel's graphic novel, which tells the story of a poor widower who gives his young son a cardboard box for his birthday, but the youngster makes the best of it by turning the item into a boxer called Bill who comes to life.

A source close to the project told Variety that Tobey looks set to have the option of voicing one of the main roles in the motion picture if the project moves forward.

Tobey's Material Pictures will executive produce the animation movie, as will Doug, with Chris Wedge in line to produce the film.

The 'SPIDER-MAN' star is no stranger to lending his voice to a movie after taking on the lead role of Lou the Beagle in 2001 animation 'Cats and Dogs'.

While Tobey is due to star in 2013 blockbuster 'The Great Gatsby' alongside the likes of Leonardo Dicaprio and Carey Mulligan, he was recently cut from forthcoming adventure movie 'Life of Pi' after director Ang Lee decided he was too recognisable among the relatively unknown cast.
