Tobey Maguire Sued For $300k Over Poker Games
According to the suit filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, a Mr Bradley Ruderman was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison on various fraud charges. Ruderman used investor money to pay off losses in poker games, in which Maguire was among the winners. The 'Texas Hold'em' games allegedly took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Peninsula Hotel and also at the homes of some players. Because the card games were unlicensed, the suit claims Maguire "had no legally enforceable contractual right to receive payment, and had no right to enforce the winnings in state or federal court". A spokeswoman for the actor had no response to the suit, filed on Wednesday morning. The documents claim Maguire could have won more than $300k over the course of the poker games.
Tobey Maguire was recently cast in Baz Luhrmann's movie adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel 'The Great Gatsby'. The movie also stars Leonardo Dicaprio and CAREY MULLIGAN.
