Tim Mcgraw Signs For Big Machine Records
Up until now MCGraw has always been signed to Curb Records, and has had a hugely successful period with them. After his self-titled debut LP in 1993, his subsequent five albums in a row with them went to the top of the US Country charts with two of those topping the US charts outright and going 19 times platinum in total. Further success followed, including another four US country number ones and two more US numbers ones although sales figures didn't quite match those of the 90s - indicative of the wider malaise in the recorded music industry.
However below all this came a long standing dispute between MCGraw and Curb, with the singer unhappy at them releasing three greatest hits compilations, claiming that the final one was aimed at extending his contract, whilst Curb refused initially to release his latest album 'Emotional Traffic.' Gaining rights to record and release new material elsewhere via the courts, MCGraw has now sought to join Big MAChine. Curb eventually released 'Emotional Traffic' earlier this year.
