Tim Burgess - Tim Burgess Leads Tributes To Reg Presley

British rocker Tim Burgess has led the tributes to Reg Presley following his death on Monday (04Feb13), hailing The Troggs frontman a "true talent" and a "total one off".

The Wild Thing hitmaker, 71, passed away at his home in Andover, England after losing his battle with lung cancer, and The Charlatans rocker Burgess has turned to the late star's back catalogue as he mourns.

Sharing a YouTube.com video of The Troggs' 1966 hit With A Girl Like You with his Twitter.com fans, he adds, "Reg Presley has left the building. A true talent & total one off. The Troggs Tapes will always make me smile. Bye Reg."

Australian comedian Adam Hills added, "I am genuinely saddened by the death of Reg Presley. I met him twice and on each occasion he was a gentleman and a gentle man. Farewell sir."

Meanwhile, writer Keith Altham, who famously gave The Troggs' longtime manager Larry Allen the idea to christen the frontman Presley, tells Wenn, "Reg was probably a great deal more important than people realise. The Troggs were synonymous with the rise of the British beat groups in the mid-1960s.

"In private, Reg was a very down-to-earth Hampshire lad who kept his accent and never left home. Quite a few of those guys (from the 1960s music scene) wanted to keep their roots and he was very much a family man. He made Andover his home so that he had some kind of sanity when came back from the madness of being on the road."

Altham, who became a good friend of the late star, reveals Presley will be thrilled his music lives on after retiring from The Troggs a year ago (Jan12): "He went to see the band a month or so ago, so I think he was more than happy that the guys are still going without him, and his music and his songs will continue."
