Tilda Swinton's Friends Choose Her Red Carpet Dresses
Tilda Swinton has revealed that she takes a fuss-free approach to dressing for red carpet awards shows and that unlike many other Hollywood actresses, she does not enlist the help of a personal dresser when she gets ready for such illustrious events. Swinton told People magazine "For me, it's just a matter of having a box cutter to open the [dress] box. There is a little effort that goes into the planning, like, weeks ago but at this stage, it's only a matter of opening the box."
Talking of other actresses, who have a slightly more high-maintenance routine when it comes to dressing for the red carpet, Swinton said "You mean there's somebody in your hotel room who actually takes your clothes out of a suitcase and lays them out for you?" It would seem that the Chronicles of Narnia star puts her trust in her friends, who send her outfits for awards shows, ready to wear: "I turn up in a pair of old corduroy trousers, and I'm very fortunate to have friends who send me boxes [with gowns]. It's like the Cinderella complex. It's the friends that make the effort, not me." It's a method that seems to work, as Tilda Swinton is frequently praised for her unique, androgynous style and at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards, she stood out in a simple, long-sleeved Grecian-style white gown.
Swinton was nominated at the awards, for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, for her performance in We Need to Talk About Kevin. She lost out, though to Viola Davis, from The Help. Later this year, she will appear in Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola's Moonrise Kingdom, alongside Bruce Willis and ED NORTON.
