Thor Heads Lightning Fast To #1 Overseas

Overseas, Paramount's Thor appeared to be somewhat of a marvel in its own right as the movie pulled in a solid $83 million from 56 countries. The superhero flick, which stars Chris Hemsworth in the title role, doesn't open in the U.S. and Canada until next weekend, but if overseas reaction is any predictor, the film should perform strongly here as well. "It appears Thor is resonating with audiences," the Los Angeles Times commented on its blog. Last weekend it debuted rather feebly in a handful of markets and was trounced by Fast Five where the two films went head-to-head. This weekend, Fast Five expanded to 14 markets, where it earned $45.3 million (and was No. 1 in each of the markets).
