Theater Owners Gain Backing From Directors In Vod Fight
The National Association of Theatre Owners has mustered an impressive list of movie directors and producers to back the exhibitors' efforts to persuade the movie studios to abandon their plans to roll out premium video-on-demand on cable, satellite, and the web. On the same day that DirecTV introduced its own Home Premiere package with Just Go With It, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, some 23 directors and producers signed an open letter to the studios, claiming that premium VOD "could irrevocably harm the financial model of our film industry." Just Go With It is being released just 69 days after it made its debut in theaters. Among those signing the NATO agreement are James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Gore Verbinski, Michael Ray, Kathryn Bigelow and Gore Verbinski .
