The Walking Dead Premieres With Glowing Reviews

British actor Andrew Lincoln was roundly praised by critics for his portrayal of 'Sheriff Rick Grimes' in the first episode of AMC's new Sunday night drama show, 'The Walking Dead', which premiered last night (October 31st 2010).

The show is based on ROBERT KIRKMAN's comic book series, and follows the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. A small group of survivors begin to travel across the United States in search of a safe haven away from the un-dead that plague the country. The survivors are led by Lincoln's 'Grimes', who worked as a police officer before the apocalypse, but the group's plight leads them to doing almost anything in order to stay alive. Frank Darabont, of 'The Shawshank Redemption', is executive producer on the show, which was received warmly after its 90-minute debut. NANCY DEWOLF SMITH, writing in The Wall Street Journal said that the first episode is "so good that it has hooked even a zombie hater like me", and the Los Angeles Times reported, "Certainly, though, the premiere didn't skimp on the scares; in all, it was a solidly entertaining way to spend Halloween".

Speaking about his character to the New York Daily News, 37-year-old Lincoln said, "He's not the man with no name, he's a family man. You feel that there's this honorable sense to this guy, but he's compromised and he's flawed and he's constantly wrangling between what's the best thing to do as a cop and what's the best thing to do privately".
