The Voice: Who Will Win Tonight's Final?
Last night (May 7, 2012), the final four contestants on the U.S. series of The Voice performed for the last time. Their fate is now in the hands of the public, as the celebrity judges / mentors step aside to leave the decision to the public vote. The four vocalists remaining in the contest are Jermaine Paul, Tony Lucca, Juliet Simms and Chris Mann. The winner of the vote will be announced on tonight's results show.
During last night's show, each of the contestants performed one of their mentor's own hits, as a way of thanking them for the support that they've given them throughout the series. However, it wasn't all sweetness and light, as on-going tensions between mentor Christina Aguilera and her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star, Tony Lucca (who is on Adam Levine's team). Christina has spoken out previously about her disapproval of Lucca rallying support from Justin Timberlake throughout the show and last night she was equally vocal about her dislike of his song choice. Lucca sang '99 Problems' by Jay Z and Aguilera told him that she felt the chorus ("I've got 99 problems but the b*tch ain't one") was derogatory to women. When she introduced her own act, Chris Mann, she said "This is a real man [who] respects women." Mann closed his own performance last night with a cover of Josh Groban's 'You Raise Me Up.'
Away from the drama, Juliet Simms battled through "throat and health issues" to perform Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Free Bird' and Jermaine Paul stunned his mentor Blake Shelton with R Kelly's 'I Believe I Can Fly.' Tonight's winner will be announced in a two hour special.
