The Voice UK Back With A New Format; Will It Work?

The Voice didn’t exactly have the huge success in the UK that its format has been enjoying in the USA, where it’s emerged as a considerable rival to both American Idol and The X Factor in the reality singing stakes. We can’t even remember the name of last year’s winner, and with good reason, given that their winning single didn’t even make the UK top 40 singles charts. Meanwhile, the proposed finalists live tour – a staple for the likes of the X Factor after their series has finished – never materialised after a slow take-up in tickets meant they had to cancel all the dates. Embarrassing.

However, rather than retreating, the BBC has had a tweak of the format and announced that the show will be returning for a second series. The show’s highest ratings came during the ‘blind’ auditions, with judges picking singers for their teams based only on hearing them. To maintain interest in the live shows, the BBC have announced that judges (called coaches, remember) will be allowed to ‘steal’ a losing member of others’ teams if they think they still see something in them. Additionally, each coach is going to have 12 contestants in their team. Two more than last year. All four of last year's coaches, Will.I.Am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue will return.

So will it make a difference? We’re not too convinced, but executive Producer Moira Ross is. According to The Independent she said: “We can’t wait for The Voice UK to return to Saturday nights. With our four global superstars back on board, an unrivalled standard of vocal talent and the added excitement of the “Steals” and “Knockouts”, it’s set to be an extraordinary series.”

Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj Link Up For 'Bang Bang' Single 4306256 News

What happens when three of the biggest names in pop music all have albums coming out soon? You put them together to make a collaborative single, of course. Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande linked up to create their brand new single, 'Bang Bang,' and it sounds better than you'd ever expect.

Jessie J Performing'Bang Bang' will be included on Jessie J's upcoming album

'Bang Bang' is proof that just because it's almost August doesn't mean the title for "Song of the Summer" still isn't up for grabs. Produced by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, and Ilya Salmanzadeh - the crew behind Ariana Grande's 'Problem' - the track is an absolute smash that shows the best qualities of Jessie J, Grande, and Minaj. The song is going to serve as an album track off Jessie J's upcoming album set for release later this fall. After the disappointing sales numbers for her last record, Alive, Jessie J was in the studio hard at work earlier this year for album number three. Alive never even saw a U.S. release, so the fact that this may be her record's lead single could bode well for the record's chart potential in the future.

For Grande, she's got a new album coming out, too. Titled My Everything and set for release on August 25, 'Bang Bang' is following up her number one hit, 'Problem' and current Zedd produced single, 'Break Free.' 'Bang Bang' is going to be included as a bonus track on the deluxe edition, because it's basically way too good to simply leave off. However, for Minaj's upcoming album, The Pink Print - which is coming out someday, probably - it's not exactly known whether 'Bang Bang' will make an appearance, but Minaj does have a new single called 'Anaconda' which should be dropping soon.

Clearly, 'Bang Bang' is coming at the perfect time for all three of these girls - so it would kind of be a bummer if the song totally sucked, right? Luckily, it's going to shoot up to number one with ease. The track features a verse from Jessie, Grande, and Nicki, with a huge chorus that's predominately handled by Jessie J, making it clear why it'll be on her record's main track listing and just Grande's deluxe version. Minaj offers a hard hitting rap verse that's in tune with the rest of her work recently, and the song is undeniably addicting in the best way possible. The vocal performances are amazing, and it's easily the best tune out of any of the girls' recent singles.

Nicki Minaj PerformingNicki Minaj drops one of her best verses lately in 'Bang Bang'

How did the song end up happening, anyway? According to an A&R rep, Wendy Goldstein, it mostly had to do with producer Max Martin's daughter loving Grande's music. "He has a young daughter that’s a huge Ariana fan," Goldstein said. Martin commented on it, stating, 'I’ve never seen my daughter excited about someone that I’ve worked with, and that’s really saying something." So, if the song does hit number one, does this mean his daughter is entitled to royalities? Probably not. But I think she at least deserves a pony.

Jessie J Announces New Single 'Bang Bang' With Nicki Minaj And Ariana Grande 4267679 News

Jessie J has announced the details of her upcoming single, 'Bang Bang.' Set for release at the end of the month, the new track will reportedly feature the talents of US pop superstars Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.

'Bang Bang' will be the first single to be released from Jessie's upcoming third studio album, which is currently untitled, as well as Ariana Grande's new album, My Everything. Yesterday (29th June), Jessie teased the new release, telling her Twitter followers Not one... but TWO amazing feats on my next worldwide single! Find out who and what the single is called tomorrow #jessiejalbum3."

A few hours later, Jessie posted the big reveal: "Me + @arianagrande + @NICKIMINAJ = BANG BANG World Premiere 29th July! #BangBang. Ariana returned the sentiment, tweeting "7/29 @JessieJ + me + @NICKIMINAJ = Bang, Bang." Meanwhile, Minaj posted an Instagram image of the single's artwork which features a triptych of the singers along with their names and the song's title.

With all three pop stars embracing the single's promotion with full-loaded social media campaigns, the song is bound to be a hit upon its release. If the single does become a hit, it will be a much needed turn of fortune for London-born Jessie J, who has admitted that her last album, Alive, which was released in September 2013, was not as successful as she would have liked.

Jessie J Prepares 3rd Album; No 'Alive' U.S. Release in Sight 4192177 News

When Jessie J’s Instagram and Twitter posts began donning a “#jessiejalbum3” hashtag, it rightfully brought excitement to her fanbase -- but maybe a little confusion, too, at least for the fans over in the United States. Back in January 2014, Jessie J pulled out of a tour with Robin Thicke in order to complete a version of Alive with new tracks made specifically for an American market. However, it’s now nearly mid-way through the year, and any information regarding new music at all has just referred to an Alive follow-up.

Jessie J Leaving Birthday PartyJessie J Is In The Studio Working On Third Album

Originally released in the UK in September 2013, Alive debuted at #3 on the UK album charts, but ultimately was a disappointment commercially, and that’s something Jessie J even admits herself.

“I’m very aware of how Alive sold, which is why right now I’m working on new music to be put out ASAP,” she told The Sun in April 2014.

While Alive may not have been a colossal failure, it still never came close to the accolades that her debut, Who Are You, received. When your first album goes quadruple platinum in the UK, anything short of that is less than desired. Perhaps this is the reason why her label may have decided to scrap a U.S. release all together, but the problem isn’t that Alive is a bad album (it has a higher Metacritic score than Who Are You) -- it just doesn’t have a ‘Domino.’

The Dr. Luke and Max Martin-assisted ‘Domino’ was released as a single in the U.S. and peaked at #6 on the Billboard charts, selling over a million downloads. The explosively catchy track put Jessie J’s name on the map in America, so it’s very possible that her label doesn’t want to risk a new single flopping in the States until there’s a brand new full-length to promote, especially when her Alive singles didn’t do particularly well either.

However, is this a bad thing? Could a new album do even worse, as it's arguably being rushed to be recorded and released? Judging by the snippets that Jessie J has posted from the studio, we’re led to believe that new music will have that same signature Jessie sound as always, but time will tell if will work out in her favor commercially.

Similarly, Jason Derulo dealt with an ordeal when it came to his most recent record, Tattoos. It was planned to be released worldwide in August 2013, but it was decided last minute to make it a Europe album only. Instead of it being scrapped completely, the record was re-structured as Talk Dirty with brand new songs and made its U.S. debut in late April. Talk Dirty debuted at #4 on Billboard, Derulo’s highest charting album to date.

Jessie J is planning on performing new material for her appearance at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, which will take place at Whembley Stadium on June 21. While the chance of an Alive U.S. release is most likely dead and buried, the future is at least bright for an entirely new record -- one that will hopefully make a splash in every country possible.

Jessie J No Longer Bisexual, But Is Sexuality So Easily Switched? 4146884 News

We’ve got to admit, when young female celebrities admit that they are bisexual, we immediately raise an eyebrow. Sexuality is, of course, each individual’s prerogative, it makes no difference to anybody’s ability to do their job, live their life, treat other people respectfully and so on. As a concept invented roughly 2000 years ago, sexuality should be recognised for what it truly is - a dated idea that should hold no influence in modern society.

Jessie J bisexual Jessie J is no longer bisexual, wants a husband

Over the past few years admitting to being bisexual has become the sort of ‘in-thing’ in the celebrity world. Female celebrities may feel it makes them sound more alluring, more mysterious to have an ambiguous sexual preference. Perhaps they believe that if the public assumes that they do the nasty with both men and women it gives them an extra edge, makes them sound more dangerous, more desirable. Of course, they may truly swing both wells, in which case, fantastic, carry on the swinging.  From Megan Fox to Johnny Depp’s fiancé Amber Heard, it seems there’s rarely a heterosexual star to be found.

Female celebrities wear their bisexuality as a badge of honour, a controversial aura proclaiming how liberated and sexually free they are. That is until, like Jessie J and Amber Heard, it comes to settling down. Amber Heard may very well still feel sexually attracted to women, but it’s with Johnny Depp that she has chosen to spend her life and raise a child. Jessie J has also recently admitted, in regards to her apparently mutable sexuality, “For me, it was a phase…I’m just so bored of it, and that’s kind of it - I want to stop talking about it completely now and find myself a husband.”

It seems almost as though it suited Jessie’s edgy image a few years back to claim that she was bisexual, but by backtracking now and admitting it was just a ‘phase’ is she insulting her genuinely bisexual fans? Implying that sexuality is something so easily embraced and then dropped when it suits her detracts some of the weightiness from how life-altering it can be for some people to ‘come out’. People who were inspired by Jessie’s frankness, may feel cheated now that it turns out it may have just been for show, or to fulfill her own purpose.

Jessie J: Bisexuality was a 'phase' 4144056 News

Jessie J claims being bisexual was a ''phase''.

The 'Do It Like a Dude' hitmaker previously confessed to being attracted to both men and women, but says she now has no interest in finding a female partner.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''For me, it was a phase. But I'm not saying bisexuality is a phase for everybody.

''I did talk about it, and I was open about it, and I do support being lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender - love who you want. That's what I'm doing.

The 26-year-old singer now wants to find a husband to settle down with, but admits it is a ''struggle'' to find the right guy.

She added: ''I don't regret anything I ever said, but I never knew back then that whatever I said became a fact that I couldn't change. I'm just so bored of it, and that's kind of it - I want to stop talking about it completely now and find myself a husband.

''It's a true struggle. All the chick flicks that didn't make sense to me, I now understand - 'Sex and the City' is real!''

But despite her comments, Jessie doesn't want to label her sexuality.

She said: ''I'm not anything. I'm aware of who I want to be and I want to marry a man. That's it.''

Having tasted considerable success in 2012 and 2013 with collaborative singles from Disclosure and Naughty Boy, with the songs 'Latch' and 'La La La' both becoming big tracks last year, Smith is ready to make a name for himself, by himself, and his recognition by the BBC is the latest indication that more success is on the horizon.

Comprised of votes from approximately 170 UK-based critics, broadcasters and bloggers, the BBC poll has predicted the success of Adele, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J in the past, with Smith vying to join them in pop stardom.
