The Voice Recap: Instant Elimination Rocks Competition
The Voice took a surprise turn last night (April 16, 2012), with a shock introduction of an instant elimination on the Monday night show. Normally, eliminations only take place on the Tuesday night, based on the public vote. However, this week, the show's producers decided to turn on the pressure, with Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton both being asked to send home one of their own team. The public voting results will still be revealed tonight.
Christina was faced with a tough choice, between her four contestants. Jesse Campbell sang an emotional version of Beyonce's 'Halo,' which he dedicated to his daughter. Lindsay Pavo turned Katy Perry's 'Part of Me' into an indie-rock number, while Chris Mann switched from his usual operatic style, to cover Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida', and Ashley De La Rosa sang Jewel's 'Foolish Games.' In the end, Christina sent home Jesse, who said that he was "grateful for this opportunity," though his path in the contest ended last night.
Blake had an equally difficult decision to make, faced with Erin Willett's powerful performance of Adele's 'Set Fire to the Rain,' and Jermaine Paul's version of 'Against All Odds' by Phil Collins. Jordis Unga sang Sara Evans 'A Little Bit Stronger' and Rae Lynn emphasised her country music roots, with a performance of Jason Aldean's 'She's Country.' In the end, Blake decided to send Jordis home, who departed, saying "I'm sad, but I understand."
