The Vaccines - The Vaccines to play tiny venue

The Vaccines are playing a show to save a tiny venue in Southampton.

The 'If You Wanna' group will play at the 150 capacity The Joiners venue in the Southern English city, and donate all proceeds to help prevent it from closing down.

The gig, which will take place on January 22, is a far cry from the kind of venues the band usually play, as they performed at the 20,000 capacity The O2 in London last year.

A spokesperson for The Joiners told NME magazine: ''Being a small independent venue has always made it harder to sustain a successful business, with the last 12 months being our hardest yet

''We've run a few of these benefit shows already - most notably at the end of last year Frank Turner did two shows in on day. Its a credit to the boys that they're supporting the cause and we can't thank them enough.''

The pub already has a place in UK rock history as it staged early gigs from Radiohead, Oasis and Coldplay.

The Vaccines singer Justin Young - who hails from Hampshire, not too far from The Joiners - has previously said he is surprised by how huge his band has become.

He told BANG Showbiz: ''I never dreamed of this band being anywhere near as big as we are now. When we had our first batch of songs, I just remember thinking it would be good if we could get to the level where we could tour [small venues] Barflys and stuff.

''That was the aim. Now, things are bigger and we don't even get nervous anymore, we just get excited. I have so much faith in what we are doing, I just get excited for people to hear and see it.''
