The Temptations' Richard Street dies

The Temptations singer Richard Street has died aged 70.

The Motown star - who found fame with the band in the 70s and 80s - passed away early on Wednesday morning (27.02.13) from a pulmonary embolism in a Las Vegas hospital, according to his wife Cindy.

She said her husband ''was a really good person'' and hoped his work in the funk/soul group would be remembered.

The Temptations, best known for hits such as 'My Girl' and 'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)', originally formed in the 1960s and the band has been through numerous line-up changes during its five-decade long career.

Although he had a long history with the band, singing with Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin in 1950s group The Distants, Richard officially joined The Temptations in 1971. He would stay with the band for over 20 years being an integral member during their successful psychedelic period when they released their seminal single 'Papa Was a Rollin' Stone'.

Richard left the group in 1992 when he and Otis had a falling out.

Shortly before his death, the influential Motown band were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards 2013.

Richard's death follows the passing of Damon Harris on February 18. Both singers joined The Temptations at the same time in 1971, with Harris leaving just four years later.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed, but services are expected to be held in Cypress, California next week.

Richard is survived by Cindy and his four children.
