Speaking after a concert with his side project Little Joy, Moretti confirmed that Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has begun writing new material.
"Julian has started writing and [guitarist] Nick [Valensi] has got some material as well," he told BBC 6Music.
"We're the kind of band that it's not finished until everyone's in one room and everyone's got their parts perfectly. We're a very mechanical band."
The five-piece released their debut album Is This It in 2001 to huge acclaim, with NME crowning the record album of the year.
After near-constant touring and the recording of their second and third albums Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth, the Strokes announced a hiatus in late 2006 and band members have since embarked on their own side projects.
Bassist Nikolai Fraiture's new band Nickel Eye is set to release its debut album The Time of the Assassins this month while guitarist Albert Hammond Jr - currently dating supermodel Agyness Deyn - has released two well-received solo albums.
But Moretti dismissed talk that recording sessions for the Strokes' fourth album would be a "reunion".
"We're constantly in each other's lives," he added.
