The Police Unveil Tour Plans

by | 13 February 2007

The Police have announced a North American tour following their decision to re-form.

At a press conference in Los Angeles last night the band fronted by Sting said they would kick off with a gig in Vancouver, Canada in May.

The three-piece first got together in 1977 and while they never officially split, they only played a handful of gigs between 1984 and Sunday's performance at the Grammy awards.

They had hits including Message in a Bottle, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic and Every Breath You Take.

In the years since their unofficial split, Sting has had a successful solo career, while guitarist Andy Summers is well known on the jazz circuit and Stewart Copeland has written a number of film scores.

The three men were known to have had a series of disagreements in the past, but are said to have patched up their differences and are looking forward to touring again.

A total of 14 tour dates have been announced with plans to play in Seattle, Phoenix, Toronto, Boston and New York.

They will be supported by Fiction Plane, an up and coming band that includes Joe Sumner, Sting's son, on guitar.
