THE POGUES' FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK is Britain's most played Christmas song of the century.
The festive track, featuring late British singer Kirsty MacColl, has dominated radio, TV and the internet over the holiday season in the U.K. since 2000.
The song failed to reach number one in the charts - the Pet Shop Boys' cover of Always On My Mind kept them from the top spot in 1987.
Last Christmas by Wham! came in second place, while Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You finished at three in the list compiled by Britain's music licensing body Ppl.
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by glam rockers Wizzard and Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? rounded out the top five.
