Colin Firth - The King's Speech Dominates National Movie Awards

'The King's Speech' was the big winner at the 2011 L'Oreal Paris National Movie Awards last night (11.05.11).

The British film - which stars Colin Firth as the stuttering British King George VI - collected three of the coveted awards, including Drama and Performance of the Year, after being voted for by the public.

Gwyneth Paltrow attended the ceremony at London's Wembley Arena to hand over the film's third award for Special Recognition to actor Geoffrey Rush and director Tom Hooper - although Colin, who won Performance of the Year, wasn't able to collect his award himself.

Fantasy franchise 'Harry Potter' also proved popular with audiences, with 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' picking up the gong in the Fantasy category and its follow-up 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II' being named Must See Movie of the Summer.

Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley in the films, was there to help pick up the awards and to support her fiance Jamie Campbell Bower who picked up the One To Watch: Brits Going Global award.

Johnny Depp was also honoured with the Screen Icon award and thanked fans for voting for him through a taped message.

Take That, JLS and Eliza Doolittle were among the stars performing at the event, while the cast of 'The InBetweeners', Dame Shirley Bassey and Formula One racing champion Lewis Hamilton presented awards.

Lewis - who was there with girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger - plays a racing car in Disney Pixar film 'Cars 2' and said he thinks he did a better job than fellow racer Michael Schumacher who lent his voice to the first movie.

He told BANG showbiz: "I got a couple more pieces than he did. He got one line, I got two.

"I don't know if I can even act really. I mean, I did the voiceover and of course you have to act a little bit for that but I don't know."

Meanwhile Nicole gushed that Lewis does have a talent for the art and said he even helps her prepare for auditions.

She said: "When I work or sing for my auditions, he reads lines with me."
