British teen comedy The Inbetweeners Movie has held off competition to stay at the top of the U.K. box office for the second consecutive week.
The comedy, a spin-off of the hit TV series, made $9.1 million (£5.7 million) in its second week, taking its total earnings to $41.4 million (£25.9 million). Last week (end06Aug11) the movie scored the biggest opening of all time for a British comedy.
Elsewhere in the new rundown, Anne Hathaway's One Day debuted in second place with takings of $3.5 million (£2.2 million), while prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes dropped one spot to third with a weekend (26-28Aug11) taking of $2.7 million (£1.7 million).
The Smurfs ($2.4 million/£1.5 million) and Final Destination 5 ($2.3 million/£1.45 million) round out the top five.
A sleekly made thriller with a sparky sense of humour, this is also a rare action movie that has something important to say.
