The Hobbit Wraps Filming

Filming has wrapped on 'The Hobbit'.

The 'Lord Of The Rings' prequel - which is being split into two parts 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' and 'The Hobbit: There And Back Again' - will now enter the editing process as shooting, which begun on March 20, 2011, has finally been completed.

Director Peter Jackson wrote on Facebook: ''We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on 'The Hobbit'.

''Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!''

Elijah Wood recently revealed he was delighted return to Hobbiton on New Zealand's South Island to reprise his 'Lord of the Rings' role of Frodo Baggins in the new movies.

He said: ''It was a gift to go back and return. I was in Hobbiton again, for the first time in 11 years. I turned 19 in Hobbiton. I'm 31 now. That put a lot of things into perspective. It was beautiful. It was just beautiful to go back.''

The first of the two movies - which stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins - is scheduled for release in December, with the second following in December of the following year.
