The Hangover 2 To Take $100 Million Despite Reviews

THE HANGOVER 2 is set to take well over $100 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend, despite some poor reviews. THE HANGOVER 2, a sequel to the surprise comedy hit of 2009, took in $31.7 million on its first day in cinemas on Thursday (26th May 2011). It has been reported that the movie took $10.4 million from 'after-midnight' late screenings alone, reports Los Angeles Times.

The figures represent the biggest ever opening day for a live-action comedy, and the second biggest opening Thursday of all time. After the strong start, it looks likely that Todd Phillips's movie will take around $125 million over the Memorial Day weekend. Back in 2008, Steven Spielberg's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' debuted on the Thursday before Memorial Day and went on to gross $152 million. On the same weekend in 2007, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' reached $153 million. Zach Galifianakis, the movie's main star, also features in 'Kung Fu Panda 2', which opened to a modest $5.8 million on Thursday. Despite the huge opening numbers, the Hangover 2 received less than impressive reviews. The UK's Metro newspaper commented, "Stu the dentist guy gets an enormous facial tattoo not a missing tooth, and Heather Graham's character is replaced by a ladyboy, but it's basically the same film, just far less funny".

The Hangover 2 sees Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha all reprise their roles from the original movie. Former boxer Mike Tyson also makes another cameo appearance.
