'The Grey' Howls Loudest For The Critics

Liam Neeson's latest movie The Grey appears to have fared well in the hands of the critics. Certainly better than the film's Alaskan wolves fare at the hands of Liam Neeson. His latest action adventure, follows the story of an oil drilling team, involved in a plane crash, who must fight for survival and find themselves hunted by lupine enemies.
The film has received a respectable score of 78% on the Rotten Tomatoes review site, with Roger Ebert noting the tension that is created in the film and Peter Bradshaw, for The Guardian, says Neeson's performance, "confers weight and muscle on the movie, and endows it with a kind of emotional dignity it would not otherwise have." Action movies don't always get an easy ride with movie critics - something that's acknowledged by Kyle Smith in his review for the New York Post, in which he describes the film as "too conventional for the art-house crowd" but "too arty for the megaplex." He sums up the conundrum neatly by summarizing the film as "an unusually reflective blood and guts saga."
The Grey opens today in the U.S. and UK. Neeson is by far the most high-profile cast member and it seems that his performance carries the film, to a large extent. He is joined on screen by Dallas Roberts (3:10 to Yuma) and Frank Grillo (Warrior). Neeson will also grace the megaplex screens later in 2012 when he appears alongside Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises.
