'The Expendables 2' Success Paves The Way For Third Movie
It's been a great weekend at the office for some of the biggest action movie stars of yesteryear as 'The Expendables 2', the follow-up to enjoyable nostalgia romp 'The Expendables', topped the US Box Office on its debut weekend. The films have found favour with the public as, though not comedy, they see the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jean Claude Van Damme effectively spoof themselves and their previous roles in the world of 80s action thrillers.
The BBC reports that the full-throttle film sequel, which also sees Jason Statham, Jet Li and Bruce Willis join in the fun, took a mighty fine $28.8 million over the weekend in the US to beat out 'The Bourne Legacy' to the top spot, the fourth in that franchise falling to second place after topping the charts the previous weekend. Animated comedy 'ParaNorman' took third spot, with Will Ferrell in the charts at four, with his political spoof 'The Campaign'. 'Sparkle', which proved to be Whitney Houston's final movie role, came in at fifth spot.
The success of 'The Expendables 2' would make it seem certain that The Expendables 2 will be in the offing, and the rumoured names to be involved is nothing short of mouth-watering, with Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford among the stars being mooted, according to various media outlets.
